ABOUT US

Richard Grimolizzi, owner of R.G. Piano, began playing piano at age 8 and later received a scholarship to Manhattan School of Music where he studied for two years in the Performance program. He holds a B.A. in Music from Brooklyn College.

After college in 1979 he began work as a piano tuner/tech and joined the NY Piano Technicians Guild in 1982. Throughout his career he has serviced the pianos of many classical/jazz artists (eg. Ray Charles, Diane Walsh, Johnny Cash, Sherrill Milnes etc.). For the last 12 years he has been the tuner/tech for the Tarpon Springs Cultural as well as the Suncoast Richey Theatre and several other venues.

During the late eighties, Richard spent a considerable amount of time rebuilding player pianos and he also spent some time working for Dennis Orris (Max Midium Organ Service) 727-531-1637 tuning and repairing pianos as well as working on church organs.

He has accompanied many artists, including Beth Mitchell of the Fred Waring singers and Peter Columbo at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in 1988. Rich has performed solo in several classical concerts, as well as playing gigs with his own group, “Smoking Section” in Manhattan and various jazz bands. In the Catskills (summers 1983-1993), he worked as accompanist for nightclub acts at resorts.

One of his latest projects included a stint with Zenph Corporation as a transcriber of old recordings into a player piano format (parts of Glenn Gould’s 1955 performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and several tunes played by Art Tatum from a 1933 performance).
